Careers Centre
Your future… careers and pathway services
The Careers Centre is a student information and resource centre situated in the Hagley Student Centre.
“I’m interested in courses”
There are a multitude of courses to try… taster courses where you can have a go at almost anything: plumbing, nursing, art and design, sport science, early childhood, hospitality, sparky, medical imaging etc.. all for a day. Come and see the full list in Careers
There are also courses with credits that we offer – Barista, bar tending, security, fork lift, beauty/hair, trades, sports coaching and more.
Come and talk to us and see what you can do this year.
“Can I find out about work experience (Gateway)”
There are opportunities to get work experience in a variety of areas – retail (eg, The Warehouse ‘Redshirts’ Countdown ‘Seeds’, Farmers etc), animal care, agriculture/horticulture, aviation, healthcare, library services, trades. Places subject to meeting with Work Experience Coordinator.
“I want a job”
We can assist in getting a CV and cover letter together; where to look for a job (we have a job’s board) and how to prepare for an interview.
“I want to go to University”
Get help with scholarships, course selection and planning as well as applying for Halls of Residence. As a year 12 you can attend Discovery Day at the University of Canterbury and experience a day as a uni student. Hoping to go to uni next year? Make contact with the careers staff as early as possible to make sure you don’t miss out on essential information.
“I don’t know what I want to do when I leave school…”
Many of you won’t know what you want to do when you leave school. And that’s OK. We can help you take the first step into the outside world.
“I want to leave school”
Sometimes it happens that you want to leave before the end of the school year. Make sure you find out what’s on offer elsewhere before you go. We can then work with you, your teachers and family to find the best option for you.
