Science Teacher

Fixed term, part-time – 16 hours per week for 2022

A teacher of Science is an enthusiastic and effective classroom teacher and a positive, co-operative member of the Science department.

We are a thriving secondary college in the centre of Christchurch city. We are looking for an Science Teacher who brings an integrated approach to the teaching of this subject and is keen to promote collaboration across learning areas.

Applicants are required to be familiar with the New Zealand Curriculum, NCEA and have a current practising certificate.

You need to be currently registered and qualified as a NZ teacher and be able to build strong relationships with staff and students.

Forte ITM – Lower String Teacher – Full-time, fixed term (Term 1 and 2, 2022)

The Forte Unit of Itinerant Teachers of Music (based at Hagley College) provide students with high quality music tuition within participating schools across the Canterbury Region.

We seek a qualified, highly effective and inspiring Lower String (Cello/String bass Teacher.)

Applicants must have:

  • skills and experience in teaching cello with knowledge of string bass being an advantage;
  • a good understanding of the Music curriculum (Years 9-13);
  • the ability to assist with NCEA performance preparation and assessment;
  • The ability to direct both large and small ensembles.
  • Flexibility within repertoire and a willingness to work with the varying requirements of a diverse range of music departments are expected.

The successful applicant needs to have current NZ teacher registration (preferred) or a Limited Authority to Teach (LAT).

Meets the Ministry of Health Covid-19 Public Health Response (Vaccinations) Order as it pertains to working in schools.

This role requires travel between different schools. A mileage allowance will be paid for travel incurred.

All Itinerant Music Teachers regularly engage in collaborative team meetings for Professional development including a current focus on Tikanga and te reo Māori.

Community Tutor – First Steps (Fixed term until 08 July 2022) – Term Time only

Hours are Monday to Thursday 9am to 12:30pm during school term time (14 hours per week).

A literacy/numeracy tutor is required for the First Steps programme, working with adult learners with intellectual impairments. 

Experience in teaching literacy and numeracy is essential, and a NZCALNE qualification is required. Experience in managing staff members and volunteers who work with the learners is an advantage.

Laboratory Technician  

Fixed term, part-time – 20 hours per week, Term Time only

Duties would include: Preparation of equipment for classes, maintaining adequate stocks of chemicals and equipment, arrange for repairs and maintenance, making up laboratory solutions, obtaining and care of specimens, plants, animals for experiments, inventory checks, photocopying prepared material for classes, ensuring that the preparation rooms are tidy and fit for purpose, system for chemical storage and safety labelling of chemicals, be conversant with current Health and Safety legislation, Keeping Safe in School Labs. RiskAssess – Tools for Science, knowledge an advantage.

DIVERSITY SERVICES MANAGER – LEARNING COMMUNITIES

Hagley College is a designated character state secondary school.  It is known for its unique, creative and innovative educational solutions for students of many backgrounds.  Hagley College is a whole city resource and has developed initiatives particularly targeting the educational needs of new immigrants in general, and refugees in particular; both adult and adolescents.

The College has a vacancy for a Diversity Services Manager.  This is a part time, fixed term position for a NZ registered teacher, for 6 months starting January 28, 2022.

The primary responsibility is to manage and lead the diversity support community which consists of multicultural learners and staff.  The position also requires the development and delivery of initiatives that support and champion diversity at Hagley College.  This is a flexible position that will involve duties outside the conventional teaching day and term.
