Course Components

• Increase your confidence with sketching, design, costing, planning and manufacture of unique pieces of craft
• Evaluate design work of others and yourself
• Develop skill in kiln-formed glass – fusing, slumping and casting
• Advance your silversmithing skills using various materials and techniques
• Apply your learning by making small cast, forged and cold-worked metal designs and/or tools
• Investigate small business skills – costing, marketing, direct selling as the class plans the exhibition
• Explore the ethics and craft opportunities of plastic

Pathways

Develop skills, which can lead you to NCEA courses at Hagley such as Level 1 Art, Level 2 Digital Art Design, and Level 2 Jewellery. Alternatively, embark on a course at Ara such as Applied Visual Art courses or a Bachelor of Design. Students could move into businesses and co-ops where their work is marketed and sold.
