ESOL provides opportunities for students to develop their language learning skills in a range of contexts related to living, studying and working in New Zealand. These include study and key life skills such as reading information and using a computer. Teaching and learning focuses on building skills and knowledge in oral, visual and written language. English equips students with skills, knowledge and understandings to maintain and develop their personal well-being both now and in the future, as well as prepare them for future academic and vocational opportunities.
Pathways
Learning English enables students to participate in New Zealand life and gain the necessary language skills for studying in New Zealand or entering the workplace. Students acquire resiliency, literacy and language learning skills together with building knowledge, attitudes and values around key themes. As a result, they develop capabilities to live, learn and positively contribute as active members of their communities.
