Written by Aristophanes adapted by Ranjit Bolt
Directed by Cameron Mattox
A classic Greek comedy updated by one of our favourite theatre adaptors.
Set in a munitions factory during World War II this revised version of a Greek classic reflects a society that is becoming more and more disillusioned at the
senseless damage of war. Taking matters into their own hands the women,
prompted by Lysistrata herself launch a plan to end the bloodshed. By using
a natural but novel idea the women certainly get their message across and have a major effect on their fighting menfolk. Hagley Theatre Company is pleased to present Lysistrata as a full Company piece – all first and second year students with a guest appearance from Darryl Low, our Associate
Artistic Director.
