College Leaver
Achievement Results – 2008

College leaver statistics are the most valuable for Hagley Community
College in that they provide a true measure of ‘value added’ against
national comparisons. What is most important to us as a college is that
when students leave they have the highest qualifications possible and
that they have the necessary requirements to continue and be successful
in their learning. Hagley students’ leaver qualifications and subsequent tertiary performance in degree courses are showing high and significant
level of success.

The target set for leavers is that 90% will leave with formal qualifications
or positive outcomes. An analysis of the 2006 leavers from MOE statistics shows that of the 158 students who left in 2006, 99.37% had gained recognised qualifications, and a figure of 0.635% left without qualifications
of any kind. This is a lower figure than the 2005 result of 4.4%, when 17 students left without qualifications. In 2007, only 3% of those who left, did
so without qualifications. Finally, the number of students that left without qualifications in 2008 was 8 or 3.1% of total leavers. The graph below
shows a summary comparison between the leaver attainment from
2005 to 2008.

While the challenge for the college is still to continuously improve the level
of student commitment so that more students are leaving with the highest possible qualifications, it has to be said that the results for 2008 continue to be very impressive. The following graph highlights to increasing performance of students achieving NCEA Level 3 full awards.
