In May 2009 The Government announced funding cuts to schools ending a long history of Government funded evening courses for adults in secondary schools, which will affect many communities throughout New Zealand.
Schools, including Hagley, have been faced with a decision about how to, and whether to, continue to play a key role in maintaining community access to schools and lifelong learning opportunities for adults.
In many cases 100 years of tradition
in providing
community education in schools will cease to
exist at the end of term four 2009.
However, while Hagley will be marking the
end of this era with a special occasion to
honour the history and closure of the
community education evening
programme as we have known
it the good news is that we are
also greatly looking forward to
welcoming in an exciting new
era with the development of
our ‘After Three’ programme
which will be launched in
term one 2010.
